Living with Pain: Isolation
A Discussion with Heather Carter
5pm UK, 12pm ECT, 9am Pacific
This is the second in a series of discussions homing in on one of the common themes emerging from a recent group in which we shared our individual experiences of chronic pain. Giving ourselves permission to speak openly about this often hidden subject proved to be therapeutic. Simply tapping whilst talking, listening and being part of an empathetic group with similar issues gave us a sense of release which was reflected in a reduction in the perception of pain in our bodies.
We tend not to talk about our pain too much. We isolate ourselves because nobody wants to hear endless moans and (literally) groans and we try to protect our friends and families from ourselves, so chronic pain can be a very lonely business. Pain can drive us inwards even whilst we try to turn away from it and in the attempt, it takes over more of our consciousness and the battle uses up more and more of our energy. Being in pain can make you variously weary, exhausted, introverted, anti-social, lost. These feelings will be the focus of our sharingand tapping in today's discussion.
