3rd April: Frustrating Friday

Heather Carter says: Those of you who know me know that I love to laugh, believe that laughter has many healing properties and that when tapping comes into the equation the benefits are inevitably ramped up. Those who know me even better also know that I love a good rant - and never more so than in these troubled times.

Of course our present world situation is serious, but that doesn't mean we have to take ourselves seriously every minute of every day. Laughter lifts our spirits, releases endorphins, oxygenates the system, even gives us exercise and allows us to find new, lighter perspectives but, above all, it helps us to access that deep, knowing, loving part of ourselves that lives in a place of joy no matter what is happening to us and around us.

With all of the above in mind, I'm opening up a Zoom space Monday - Friday evenings next week at 9pm UK time for you to bring your moans, groans, irritations, frustrations - all of the small things that are maybe taking a disproportionate amount of your attention and playing on your mind far more than they deserve.

Please don't bring anything deep and on-going because we will be using laughter in place of a balancing statement. It's also vitally important that everyone (especially that inner child) understands they are not being laughed AT - we will be laughing just because laughter feels good, and it's a choice we can make in that moment. If you think hearing laughter in response to something you bring to the group will trigger you, then take responsibility for your own wellbeing and don't come, or don't raise that issue, because there won't be time on the call to address an underlying trauma and bring you back to a place of safety.

Here are a few examples from my own day (or skip to the end for the meeting link):

  • Pavement blockers: three dog walkers chatting in the street, failing to observe proper social distancing for themselves but also forcing me to walk in the middle of the road to pass them and they didn't even notice.
  • Frustration with myself that I didn't point it out to them.
  • Somebody operating a noisy drone and disturbing the peace of the park in the precious time I was out walking.
  • Why do they call it social distancing when it should be physical distancing? (People are suddenly finding the pavement fascinating and behaving as though the virus can be transmitted by eye contact, a pleasant 'good morning' and a smile).
  • Suddenly I have all this time to catch up on housework - but can't be bothered!
  • I've run out of gin and wonder if this counts as 'essential food shopping'!
  • It's the perfect time to be working on the garden - except I can't get plants, compost etc.
  • I'm enjoying the seclusion and people will think I don't care about those who are suffering.
  • I should be doing my physio exercises now that I don't have the excuse of lack of time. I'm not!
  • Youths in cars hooting their horns at anybody taking their daily walk.
  • I've washed my hands so many times, my skin feels like sandpaper.

I could go on, and on ..... but get to the point Heather:

One Zoom link for any and all so join me any evening Monday-Friday next week to giggle at your niggles:

https://us04web.zoom.us/j/858253661 - It's a free account so maximum call length 40 minutes.

Do join me if and when you can. If you're unsure, have a listen to my presentation and demo at the 2018 Gathering. (Follow the link then scroll down to Heather Carter Laughter Tapping).
